Default A R/Mo8 feeling disheartened in PVp :(

OK,

I'm a noob. amd I really wanted to PvP in this game and I have found out that I suck.. and I need some emotional support.

Well.. Really though.. I am questioning my choice... Or maybe it is just because I am so low lvl ?...

But sometimes I see other char at the same lvl that live much longer...

but the second I am attacked by any warrior I am Ground meat! and there seems like there is no escape..

does anyone have any tips on what to do if a warrior is shredding you to pieces?

it seems like i don't have much damage and really no defence... which is a bad combo..

any hints of some stratagy? for a r/mo in PVP????

maybe a hunter is not for me? What is a class that has alot of damge? seems like warriors are pretty Badass..

What you may be experiencing is that a lot of players get "run" to Droknar's Forge where they buy best of the game armor. There you are with relatively little armor compared to them, and little to no chance of winning.

It isn't your level. Its where you are fighting.

The level 10 and below arena is impossible to beat effectively on a new character, this is because it is swarmed with people that paid to have themselves run to the end game areas so they can buy the best skills and armor.

Your starter armor and the 4-6 skills you probably know will never compare to their Max Stat armor and Elite and end game skills.

You really cant effectively PvP without "cheating" until the no level cap arenas.

What skills are you using? some skills may not work very well against those that you are against

If you have kindle arrows (recieved in grendich courthouse) then use that skill, does extra dmg (elemental), warriors dont have the best armor against elemental (rangers and elementalists have the best armor against elemental dmg)

I would suggest going through the game, at least get to the desert (Amnoon Oasis or maybe further) so that you have the chance to unlock some runes and skills, then make a pvp-only character, which begins at level 20, and practice in the competition arenas where your teammates AND enemies are completely random. it will help you to get the feel for pvp in a more even environment. In those level 10 arenas, you might as well be facing max level players, it's almost the same, since they have the best armor and weapons in the game and the best skills.

Rangers are particularly weak in the early game, with no benefit from expertise essentially, no access to good skills (traps, throw dirt and the various defenses that are essential) and so on.

Don't give up, they get better. You need to be a high enough level to get 8-9+ expertise to reduce the costs of your skills to be able to get efficient.

Yea... a R/Mo at level 8 isn't really a good indication at all of what Rangers are truly capable of. They (the game designers) sort of assume that as a new player, you don't know how to do anything but shoot your bow and do damage right now, so all you have are not-so-great bow skills right now.

You'll start to see the enormous range of abilities that a Ranger has as you progress further and further into the game (as long as you bother to experiment with your new abilities).

This thread is sad commentary on the way low level arenas have been ruined. The fact that new players essentially have no where to go to learn to PvP effectively with others of the same competency and equipment levels is a sure deterent for many to ever participate in PvP.
I posted a similar thread on our guild forums when I found myself being cut down in rather short fashon in Ascalon Arena. I never have gone back to PvP partly because of that experience and mostly because of what I've read here in these pages about the way the Arenas have been exploited by better equipped people. I know it's been discused other places but after seeing this poor cry for help it just brought it back to my mind and makes me wonder why this isn't fixed.

So explain to me again HOW people are getting super pimped out at lvl 8 9 10? you say they 'run' to like a high lvl city and purchase high lvl armor?

That is weird.. Normally in most RPG games u need a min lvl requirement for super pimped out gear... Which makes sense since if there isn't it would be unbalenced...

If they allow that in this game that it really uncool....

'sigh'

So you don't think it would make much of a diffrence if I switched to a warrior? I would still get pwned anyways because of the cheaters?

The way the game works right now - even if 1 party member makes it to a new outpost, the whole team spawns there, so quite earily on - "Running" came about.

That is - paying someone or a group to let you in their party, then go to a town you never would have been able to access - thus letting you in that town also - thus you can buy the armor and skills from that town you aren't even supposed to know about yet.

That coupled with no lvl requirement or anything on armor..

And yea - to win effectively in PvP through a PvE character you have to have made it atleast to the desert skill/armor wise.

WHAT! Why hasn't GW done anything to stop this!!!! Seems so simple! Why didn't they expect people to do that! It's unfair... maybe they could put a lvl min on certian cities? I mean there HAS to be a fair way to fix this! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... that makes me soo mad...

You aren't the only one. I think that as son as a player reaches Yak's Bend (or more correctly, Yak's Bend or the areas used to run past it - like Iron Horse Mines for example) the Ascalon arena should be closed to them, and as soon as they hit Lion's Arch (or again, to catch detours, the areas that you would need to pass through - Snake Dance or North Kryta Province should do it) they lose access to Yak's Bend Arena. That easy.

ANet should be encouraging new players to PvP. The PvP rewards in these arenas could be materials, dyes and such, things that you would actually use (money?) to encourage people to play lower level PvP - after all, if you know that you can win a bunch of steel or fur there you might do that, instead of trying to farm Charr for example. I'd rather have "farming" in PvP land, so that all the new players can go in and win enough for their suit of armour if they want to. A bigger taste of PvP action would help the cause.

oh man oh man. i had this problem too when i was a noob on my ranger. it can get easily fixed. i used to get so PISSED because wars would also go for me and owned me, until i got certain skills. it's so funny now, wars pose no threat at all to me. i pose the threat to them, especially with Spike Range Build.

Whirling Defense = gets wars really bored. my spell lasts about 14 seconds when i go pvp. the wars fight and fight but they usually miss and get tired and go attack someone else. sometimes wars continue, so i use Throw Dirt. that lasts a while. if they continue, you can pin. if you time it correctly, all your spells will be recharged and you can do the same process over and over. pin and storm chaser > run!

don't worry man, you will soon learn how to work your character much better. get good elites and better armor and ur all set to go
